Passionate about helping others, Ms. Ava Dorrance has devoted her life to improving all aspects of her community. Among the organizations Ava Dorrance supports are the local library, the American Cancer Society, the Humane Society, and her church. Ava Dorrance also dedicates much of her time to volunteering. An active member of the YMCA Service Club, Ava Dorrance plays a key role in developing, orchestrating, and taking part in projects such as funding initiatives for the daycare center. Ava Dorrance assists with the coordination of the YMCA Summer Camp program, as well as repair projects. In addition to her work with the YMCA, Ava Dorrance is involved with numerous church programs, including one that prepares meals for the needy. Ava Dorrance possesses a long history of assisting others both personally and professionally. Commencing her career as the Coordinator of the Eating Disorder Program at the Covenant Medical Center, Ava Dorrance provided extensive therapy to groups, individuals, and families. Ava Dorrance went on to hold positions as a Mental Health Consultant for the State of Iowa Department of Human Services, Psychiatric Social Worker for the Robert Young Mental Health Center, Psychiatric Social Worker Therapist for the Psychology Associates Genesis Health System, and most recently as a Psychiatric Social Worker for the Cass County Community Hospital. Ava Dorrance spent six months in her latest position before leaving to care for her parents on a full-time basis. In her downtime, Ava Dorrance maintains a broad range of interests. From birding to politics to writing, Ava Dorrance makes the most of every opportunity afforded to her. An avid reader, Ava Dorrance particularly enjoys the works of authors Eckhart Tolle, Ken Pope, and Jon Kabat-Zinn. Ava Dorrance is currently a member of the National Audubon Society and the Iowa Ornithologists’ Union. Ava Dorrance lives in Iowa.

Coaching individuals via phone contact, presentations, and face-to-face interviews to enhance and improve overall wellness. Goals in coaching might include weight loss, organizational skills, exercise strategies, and budgeting.

Responsibilities include record keeping, continued education in the coaching field and ethical practices utilized in the process, goal setting and guidance, scheduling weekly phone sessions.

I have been working from my home since 2005 while caring for my elderly parents and managing our family owned farm business.

Balancing these roles has been a both challenge, but overall a rewarding experience.
