Sedler spearheaded a number of successful high-profile business initiatives while at AT&T. He led a communications and public affairs effort to secure regulatory approval for AT&T’s acquisition of cable systems in several Midwestern states. He directed AT&T’s communications for the updating of state laws in Michigan and Ohio. Sedler oversaw the launch of local telephone service in key markets. As a result of his work, Sedler was selected to participate in AT&T’s executive development program in 2002. Earlier employment included several years at Edelman Public Relations working in the Reputation Management practice where he directed media and public affairs campaigns. At Edelman, Sedler developed and implemented public affairs campaigns in the fields of telecommunications, insurance, health care and professional services. Before entering the field of communications management, Sedler spent nearly a decade working in politics and government. He worked for federal, state and local officials and managed a number of successful state and local political campaigns. Sedler worked for Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan as a leading member of the Issue Department. Sedler worked directly with the House leadership and state legislators to develop and implement communications programs that advanced the caucus agenda. Sedler had specific responsibility for developing communications programs on behalf of legislators. In this role, Sedler developed communications programs that resulted in extensive news coverage for legislators. Sedler’s work included developing legislation dealing with telephone area codes, mammogram coverage and fireworks safety regulation. Sedler is a frequent guest speaker on communications and issues management. He has lectured at the University of Chicago, Loyola University and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Sedler is the recipient of the Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America and the Silver Trumpet Award from the Publicity Club of Chicago.
