Lars Windhorst was raised in Rahden, Germany, a small village in the northern part of the country. Since a young age he was fascinated by finance and investment. When he was just six years he started following the stock market and by the time he was fourteen he bought his first shares.
A natural entrepreneur, Lars Windhorst started his first business in his parent’s garage when he was fifteen. Within a year the start-up was a success and Lars Windhorst partnered with Ming Rong Zhang, a twenty-seven year old Chinese businessman, in order to form Windhorst Electronics. Within one year, the company reached over $50 million USD in sales and made Lars Windhorst Germany’s youngest and most successful entrepreneur.
Shortly thereafter, the German media became captivated with the young entrepreneur and named him “Germany’s number one business founder” in 1990. In addition, the young Lars Windhorst captured the attention of Helmut Kohl, the former German Chancellor, and the two formed a bond that helped Lars Windhorst further his business objectives in Asia.
As Lars Windhorst’s businesses continued to prosper, Lars Windhorst established Windhorst Asian Pacific Holdings Ltd., Windhorst AG and Windhorst Capital Holding GmbH, expanding his business to over 20 establishments throughout Asia and Europe. When the internet bubble burst in 2001, the Windhorst enterprises were severely effected and ultimately went bankrupt by 2003.
Even with the loss of his first business enterprise, Lars Windhorst continued to create businesses to capitalize on the increasingly global economy. In 2004 Lars Windhorst founded Sapinda with a famous South African family. In the first five years, Sapinda investment traded over 2 billion EUR and built a name or itself in global finance.
In 2009 Lars Windhorst co-founded Sapinda Deutschland GmbH where he currently serves as the CEO.
